More than just a key.
With KeyVit (the virtual on-screen keyboard of Eurovocs Suite) you can type in any program (e.g. DocReader, Microsoft Word, Outlook Express, MSN messenger, ...) by simply selecting the keys of the on-screen keyboard. Instead of using a hardware keyboard, you can use KeyVit as an assistive typing aid to achieve exactly the same.

But the on-screen keyboard can do a lot more than just type letters :
- Send a complete piece of text to the active program (e.g. send default messages to your chat program)
- Send a keystroke (such as Enter) to the active program
- Send a key combination (macro) to the active program at once (e.g. Ctrl+V)
- Run a program
- Speak complete messages (using DocReader)
- Send data to a serial port (for environmental control like GEWA)
- Perform an internal function (e.g. to move the mouse around)
Accessibility
The on-screen keyboard can be accessed in different ways :
Mouse or trackball: Click the key on the on-screen keyboard to select it. The keys of the virtual keyboard can be highlighted if you move over them with the mouse. This gives visual feedback on the current placement of the mouse pointer.

Joystick: When a joystick is used, the mouse pointer can be moved by simply moving the joystick in the desired direction. You can click on the current position of the mouse by pressing the fire button of the joystick (double-clicking and dragging is also possible). The joystick can be used anywhere in Windows, so it is not restricted to the on-screen keyboard window.
Dwell: Dwelling can occur with mouse or joystick. When the mouse pointer moves over a key, that key is highlighted. When the pointer hovers over the key, that key is selected after the expiration of a certain time period (dwell time). It is possible to have a progress bar indicate the progress of this dwell time. Dwelling can be used outside the on-screen keyboard as well, making it possible to click anywhere in Windows by just moving the mouse pointer to a location and wait for the dwelltime to expire.
Scanning: KeyVit supports single or multiple switch scanning. When this selection mode is used, the keys of the on-screen keyboard are scanned according to the selected scanning mode. There are 10 scan modes (row-column, column-row, linear, backtrack, circular, snake, block, block-row-column, ...) and a lot of scanning options that make it possible to adjust scaninng to the exact needs of the user.
